 Avoid Black Plastic Packaging

Sustainable Sally addresses the importance of avoiding black plastic at the design stage.

Black plastic of course can be recycled, however, sorting machines struggle to recognise products that are black due to their inability to reflect light. Additionally, even if it is sorted, black plastic can only make black plastic products again and thereby limits markets for the recyclate. Natural is best!

To get the greatest value from a post consumer waste stream, polymer recyclers need to be able to make value add recycled polymers; so avoid black and the best way to do that is at the product design stage.

Design for ‘Value Add’ Recycling!
